Good to know.
What counts as a credit?
Grading one document uses one credit, so a CV plus its cover letter is two. If a document fails to grade — an unreadable file, say — it's free.
Which files can I upload?
PDF, Word (.docx) and plain text, up to 25 MB per upload. Older Word files (.doc) need saving as .docx or PDF first.
How are cover letters matched to CVs?
By the email address in each document, then by the applicant's name, then by filename. Anything that can't be matched with confidence is graded on its own rather than paired with the wrong person.
What happens to the documents I upload?
They're stored on our servers and only used to grade applications in your workspace. Before any text goes to our AI provider (OpenAI) for scoring, names and contact details are removed. Documents sent through OpenAI's API aren't used to train their models.
Does it penalise AI-written cover letters?
No. A letter that reads as possibly AI-written is flagged so you can take a closer look, but it never changes the score — AI-text detectors are unreliable, particularly for people writing in a second language.
Can I use this to make hiring decisions?
Use it to decide who to look at first. CVAI ranks and explains; it never rejects anyone automatically, so a person always makes the decision. That matters: UK and EU data-protection law restricts decisions made solely by automated systems.
